Unblocking of connections and relaunching transport infrastructures in the South Caucasus would boost economic cooperation with Russia too, Armenian FM Ararat Mirzoyan has said.
Speaking at a joint press conference with Russian FM Sergey Lavrov, Mirzoyan said their meeting was comprehensive and constructive.
“We both noted the high-level and continual political dialogue between Yerevan and Moscow based on the interests and priorities of the two countries,” the Armenian FM said.
Mirzoyan said economic ties have significant place in the relationship with Russia. He underscored the mutually beneficial and successful partnership within the framework of the Eurasian Economic Union.
“Certainly, the region’s economic development potential hasn’t been fully utilized. And we are sure that in case of the opportunity of unblocking regional connections and relaunching transport infrastructures our mutually beneficial economic cooperation will also grow significantly. In this context I had the chance to once again present the Crossroads of Peace project. We discussed the possibilities that could emerge in case of implementing this initiative,” Mirzoyan said.
He said they discussed multilateral agenda, bilateral ties and regional developments.
“We talked about Armenia’s consistent stance over signing the agreement on establishing peace and interstate relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan. We expressed hope that the goal of signing and ratifying the agreement could be realized in the not-too-distant future. Notwithstanding all difficulties and challenges along this path, Armenia is committed and continues to make efforts to achieve sustainable peace in the region,” FM Mirzoyan said, adding that this is in interests of all neighboring countries.
He said the issues pertaining to the media sector were also discussed.
“In particular we addressed the need for regularly and timely addressing emerging problems, making additional efforts to ensure mutual understanding and through these efforts avoid unnecessary, unilateral assessments and interference,” Mirzoyan said.
