The Armenian government plans to introduce a new program for socially vulnerable persons as part of revising the housing support program for forcibly displaced persons of Nagorno-Karabakh.
Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Khachatryan told Public Television that the purpose of the new program is to mitigate the social condition of families who could appear in a difficult situation after the revision of the housing support program known colloquially as 40+10-thousand-dram program.
“We realize that as a result of these changes there could be families who won’t be able to [pay] their rent. And the government has already decided to introduce a new, additional program along this revised program, which would calculate the income of the family and determine whether there is a need for allocating additional money,” he said.
Families whose income per person would be lower than 55 thousand drams will be eligible for support.
The 40+10 program’s revised version envisages providing support only to vulnerable groups. The aid will comprise 40 thousand drams in April-June and 30 thousand drams from July until yearend per person.
The 40+10 program, a temporary social support program designed to help the forcibly displaced persons from Nagorno-Karabakh to pay their apartment rents, had actually started to obstruct the implementation of a long-term support program because the beneficiaries had a misconception that it is termless and were not applying for the long-term programs, the Deputy PM said.
