Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said Friday that the proposals sent to Azerbaijan also include the matter of the prisoners and the missing persons.
“They are people who are still detained despite the November 9 trilateral statement,” Pashinyan said at a press conference when asked on the Armenian prisoners still held in Azerbaijan. “All issues are discussed. We have conveyed several written proposals to Azerbaijan. All issues are under discussion. Do these topics touch upon the prisoners, hostages and other detainees? Of course, definitively and constantly. Do these topics include the matter of those missing? Of course they do.”
At least 23 Armenian prisoners are held in Azerbaijan. They include the former officials and military commanders of Nagorno-Karabakh, including ex-presidents Arkady Ghukasyan, Bako Sahakyan, Arayik Harutyunyan, as well as State Minister Ruben Vardanyan. They are charged with war crimes in what has been widely described as a sham trial.
