The decision by the UK government does not tighten the conditions of visits to Armenia. In fact, there is an alleviation of the recommendations made regarding Armenia, Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan said, addressing opposition lawmaker Artur Khachatryan’s question regarding the United Kingdom government’s advice to its citizens to “avoid all travel within 5km of the entire eastern border between Armenia and Azerbaijan and not to travel along the Noyemberyan-Ijevan road.''
Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan responded: “This decision by the British government does not tighten the conditions or recommendations for visits to Armenia. In fact, there is an alleviation of the recommendations made towards Armenia.”
In its previous statement made in May 2024, the UK had stated in the section on terrorism that terrorism cannot be ruled out in Armenia and they should be aware of the global risk of indiscriminate terrorist attacks, which could occur in public places, including places frequenty visited by expatriates and foreign travelers.
In a text updated on January 17, the UK noted that, "while there is no recent history of terrorism in Armenia, attacks cannot be ruled out. Attacks could be indiscriminate, including in places frequently visited by foreign nationals".
