The Defense Minister of the Republic of Armenia, Suren Papikyan has assured that the Armed Forces of Armenia are not engaged in an arms race with any country.

During a press conference summarizing the activities of 2024, Defense Minister Papikyan commented on the potential movements of the Azerbaijani armed forces in the border areas. "No movement is visible to us," he said.

Speaking about Armenia's air defense, the minister noted that in the current situation, there are active military operations where the concept of "air being closed" is very relative.

"There are countries in the world with cutting-edge air defense systems, yet they have not fully achieved this. Of course, to enhance Armenia's defense capabilities, significant attention should be paid to both air defense and missile defense, as well as to defense against UAVs. However, this is not an issue that can be solved with a single strike; it is a long-term process. I believe all countries today, considering the nature of modern warfare and challenges, face the task of increasing the number of such defense-oriented units in their armed forces," noted Papikyan.

Papikyan added that "in the modern world, it is simply impossible to imagine an army without UAV units."
