TUMO Yeghegnadzor launch brings TUMO’s education to all teens in Vayots Dzor

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 4, ARMENPRESS. With the opening of a temporary center in Yeghegnadzor, TUMO's educational program is now available to all teens in Vayots Dzor.

The center, which is made up of six TUMO Boxes, will provide free tech and design education to students across the region. 

Teens from the Areni, Vayk, and Jermuk TUMO Boxes, and soon from the Shatin box, who are already participating in the self-learning part of the program in their respective communities, will travel to the Yeghegnadzor center for workshops and learning labs, with transportation provided by TUMO.

“The temporary center allows us to provide TUMO’s education to teens in Vayots Dzor until the extensive renovation of a permanent center is complete. Students from Areni and Vayk no longer need to travel over two hours to TUMO Yerevan to complete their experience through workshops and learning labs,” said Marie Lou Papazian, TUMO’s CEO. 

This educational network in Vayots Dzor will provide around 1,300 teens each week with access to cutting-edge skills in areas like game development, programming, animation, filmmaking, drawing, 3D modeling, and more.

The temporary center is located next to the city’s high school at 12 Shahumyan Street. Orientation sessions with registered students and their parents have been taking place since September 2nd, with self-learning sessions and workshops to start on September 9th.TUMO invites all teens aged 12 to 18 in Vayots Dzor to join the program by registering with their parents at register.tumo.org.

"I’ve been attending TUMO for over two years. Previously, I had to travel to Yerevan for my music, 3D modeling, and graphic design workshops and learning labs. I’m glad that TUMO Yeghegnadzor is now open. It’s a great opportunity for me and other local students because it’s closer and helps us manage our schedules better,” said 14-year-old Ashot Hovhannisyan, a TUMO student from Vayk.

"We were so excited when we heard that a TUMO center was opening in Yeghegnadzor. My son is eager to attend and learn more about programming," said Naira Hakobyan, the parent of future TUMO student Karen Hakobyan from Yeghegnadzor.

For over 13 years, TUMO has been creating life-changing learning experiences on a large scale. During this time, TUMO’s network in Armenia has grown to include seven centers and 37 TUMO Boxes, with over 25,000 students attending each week. A recent independent impact assessment by Dalberg International found that TUMO students perform significantly better in school, have more potential to work in the tech industry and can earn over three times the national average salary. The opening of TUMO Yeghegnadzor was made possible through contributions from supporters of the TUMO Armenia campaign. This campaign aims to build a network of 16 centers and 110 TUMO Boxes, serving 80,000 students weekly. TUMO’s educational network currently covers the Tavush and Shirak regions in northern Armenia, as well as the southern part of Syunik. The next center is planned for Masis in the Ararat region.
