Nothing will change drastically: Education Minister confirms merger of three universities

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 13, ARMENPRESS. Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport Vahram Dumanyan confirmed that the government has made a decision to merge three universities – the V. Brusov State University, the State Pedagogical University and the State Institute of Physical Culture and Sport.

“Yes, the government is circulating that decision, I say it openly. Yes, a decision on the merger of three universities is being circulated, and a respective decision will be made in accordance with a procedure and we will move forward”, the minister told reporters at a briefing.

Addressing students and teaching staff, the Minister said nothing will change drastically.

“All this aims at raising the quality of education, nothing closes, no position is being cut, maybe we will have two less rector’s positions. The talk is about two positions, nothing substantive will change”, he said.

He called on students to be consistent with receiving quality education.

The Minister also said that they are still discussing when to merge the three universities.

“The three buildings will be maintained, they all will remain where they were. Of course, we have the idea of the academic city, and when we have the academic city, of course, those, that will be included in the concept, will have better much better conditions”, he said.
