YEREVAN, OCTOBER 5, ARMENPRESS. Foundation for Armenian Science and Technology (FAST) co-founder, Moderna co-founder Noubar Afeyan attaches importance to the development of artificial intelligence in Armenia. Afeyan delivered a speech at the opening ceremony of the Global Innovation Forum 2022 in Yerevan.

He said the event is taking place in difficult times for the country.

“But we are very familiar with challenges. Challenges make us focus and flex our powers. There are numerous challenges we see as a state which is in the stage of development. We have inadequate resources, an underdeveloped economy over the course of thirty years, absence of institutional capacity, development is slow, difficult geographic position. But this has been our home long before all our neighbors appeared here,” Afeyan said.

He also spoke about regional security issues. Afeyan said that the world is withstanding extremely intense challenges, wars, pandemics and others. He said that climate change is also a global challenge.

“This century is going to be the century where biology will have the biggest impact on humanity. Biology has always been part of human life, but in terms of technology it was never linked to computers, now it is, which is very important,” Afeyan said.

He highlighted imagination and faith for innovation.

“Artificial intelligence can be a revolutionary force not only commercially or in any other sector, but in science, because artificial intelligence has the ability to see the trends which the human mind cannot see with the complexity that exists. People may perhaps not notice that they can have progress in some area, but a machine will see it by making projections,” Afeyan said.

He said he would want Armenia to welcome and develop the AI sector.
