Yerevan hosts 1st European Chess Universities Championship

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 8, ARMENPRESS. Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Armenia Armen Ashotyan attended the solemn opening ceremony of European Chess Universities Championship. The Championship is held for the 1st time, 25 university teams representing 9 countries participate in the event.

“Armenpress” was informed by the Department of Information and Public Relations of the Ministry of Education and Science that Minister Ashotyan greeted the attendees wishing them efficient performance emphasizing that it was a great honor for Armenia to host the 1st European Chess Universities Championship

“Armenia applied to European University Sports Association with rather ambitious program 2 days ago. Our primary goal was to integrate Armenian student-athletes into different Championships, and the second goal was to organize some Championship in Armenia,” Minister noted.

According to Ashotyan, the organizing committee had instructed to spare no effort in making the 82 athletes arriving in Armenia feel they came to a chess superstate.

The teams of Poland, Russia, Portugal, France, Turkey, Croatia, Serbia, Slovenia and Armenia participate in the 1st European Chess Universities Championship held in Yerevan, Armenia.
