Yerevan Deputy Mayor Armen Pambukhchyan has commented on the altercation that broke out between ruling and opposition members of the Yerevan City Council during a council session on June 23, which led to a 30-minute suspension of the meeting.
Pambukhchyan first apologized for the incident and then explained what he described as the reasons behind it.
“One of the real reasons is that the faction called ‘Mother Armenia’, which has already split between Robert Kocharyan and Gagik Tsarukyan, attempted yet another provocation. You have witnessed such provocations many times, when they, without registering to speak and lacking the courage to come to the podium and deliver speeches, constantly interrupt speakers with remarks, in some cases in an insulting manner. I believe they needed to be shown their place,” Pambukhchyan said.
