Spain’s Santa Margarita recognizes the Armenian Genocide

YEREVAN, 26 MAY, ARMENPRESS. The Spanish city of Santa Margarita has become one of the Spanish cities having officially recognized the Armenian Genocide. As posted on the official Facebook page of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia, according to “Armenpress”, the decision of Santa Margarita Municipality on Armenian Genocide recognition reads as follows:

“Having regard to the fact that certain governments don’t acknowledge the Armenian Genocide, including the Turkish and Spanish governments,

Having regard to the fact that crimes against humanity do not have an expiry date and that genocide is one of the worst of those crimes,

Having regard to the fact that the Armenian people have received neither economic nor territorial nor humanitarian compensation,

Having regard to the fact that the Armenian Genocide is the prototype of the Holocaust and the genocides of Rwanda and the Balkans,

Having regard to the resolution adopted by the European Parliament,

The Municipality decides:

To show support so that the Armenian Genocide is recognized and so that reparations are demanded,

To demand that the Government of Spain recognize that Genocide and organize the transfer of this Decision to international organizations.”
