President Sargsyan receives Commissioner for Research, Science and Innovation Carlos Moedas

YEREVAN, NOVEMEMBER 17, ARMENPRESS. President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan received on November 17 EU Commissioner for Research, Science and Innovation CarlosMoedas, who is in Armenia to participate in the informal ministerial dialogue in Armenia, headlined “Research, Science and Innovation”.

As “Armenpress” was informed from the press service of the Armenian President’s Office, the President of the Republic greeted the guest and stated that education and science have always been of particular importance for the Armenian people, and today Armenia relies on knowledge on its development path and tries to maximally be involved in programs fostering the development of education and science. The President highlighted holding a meeting on those spheres in Yerevan for the second time.

Serzh Sargsyan also referred to Armenia-EU relations, mentioning that the talks on new Armenia-EU framework agreement continue in a friendly and constructive atmosphere. In the context of deepening Armenia-EU relations, the President stated that Armenia’s accession as an associated member to “Horizon-2020” program is a key achievement, which is meant to consolidate all human efforts and foster integration processes in the European research area.

EU Commissioner CarlosMoedas mentioned with satisfaction that today’s Yerevan ministerial meeting established grounds for the future. He stated that he is impressed by the researchers he met today, and is convinced “Horizon-2020” program will open new windows also for higher educational institutions of Armenia, will foster the transition of knowledge from theoretical field to practical one, and will also foster the development of small and medium sized innovative enterprises.

Armenian-Portuguese bilateral relations were also touched upon at the meeting. Portuguese politician CarlosMoedas referred to Portuguese prominent businessman and philanthropist of Armenian origin Galust Gyulbenkian with greatest respect, who, according to him, has had a huge contribution to the development of science, education and culture of Portugal.
