YEREVAN, AUGUST 27, ARMENPRESS. The Civil Aviation Committee of Armenia has issued a warning to the public against the use of laser lights which might distract pilots of aircraft.

“An increase is lately observed in the use of laser lights which pursue different goals, ranging from various types of events up to scientific research,” the Civil Aviation Committee said in a news release.

“The cases when laser lights are used deliberately – obstructing the work of aircraft and sometimes the air traffic regulation – are of most concern for the safety of flights. The use of laser lights contains most risks during takeoff and landing. This light, in particular, by being pointed at the windshields of the aircraft is immediately distributed in the cockpit, hindering pilots from using the controls and carrying out defined procedures. Laser lights can cause visibility problems for pilots, even temporary blindness, thus jeopardizing the safety of the flight.

We are asking you to assess the abovementioned risks before using laser lights and maximally avoid its unnecessary use,” the aviation regulator said.
