YEREVAN, JUNE 10, ARMENPRESS. A part of the Armenian humanitarian aid – which was sent to Syria at the order of President Serzh Sargsyan and in accordance to the agreement between the Armenian and Russian defense ministries, has been transported on June 9 to Damascus.

The defense ministry told ARMENPRESS the aid – mostly clothing and food – was unloaded in the territory of the St. Sarkis Armenian Church of the diocese of Damascus.

The Armenian Embassy and the community will distribute the humanitarian aid among the Syrian people.

Armenian defense ministry and emergency situations ministry officials – who arrived in Syria to organize the distribution process and escort the aid – met with Armenia’s Ambassador to Syria H.E. Arshak Poladyan and the Armenian community representatives of Damascus.

The Ambassador said the Syrian-Armenian community is an accomplished and traditional community with its various institutions. Syrian-Armenians have good recognition and reputation in the country.

“And this humanitarian aid initiative, carried out under the order of the Armenian President, even more strengthens the reputation of Armenians and contributes to the developments of the brotherly Armenian-Syrian ties”, His Excellency Arshak Poladyan said.

The remaining portion of the aid will be transported to Aleppo, Kessab and other cities, through the efforts of the Armenian Embassy and the Russian center for reconciliation of the conflicting sides.
