YEREVAN, JUNE 9, ARMENPRESS. Despite the ongoing tension over Qatar, official Ankara announced its plans to send gunships and navy vessels to the military base which will be deployed in Qatar, Hurriyet reported.
According to news agency, although the main objective of the military base in Qatar is the training of the gendarmerie forces by Turkish professionals, the Turkish side will not be limited only by this. The Turkish air force and navy will also be sent to Doha.
It is expected to send a delegation consisting of 90 soldiers to Qatar which will examine the conditions of military base. 200-250 troops will be sent to Doha already in the upcoming two months.
Turkey’s Parliament on June 7 approved a bill on deploying troops in Qatar and training the gendarmerie forces. The deployment of Turkish troops in Qatar will be carried out in accordance with the agreement signed between the two countries in 2015.
It is worth mentioning that the Turkish Parliament’s such decision came after 7 countries (Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Bahrain, Libya, Yemen, Maldives) announced cutting diplomatic ties with Qatar. The countries said Qatar supports terrorist groups and destabilizes the situation in Arab countries.
After that Turkey’s President Erdogan called on to go to dialogue, stating that Ankara will continue developing ties with Qatar. He said imposing sanctions against Qatar is not right.
