Ukraine’s Andrushivka City Council lawmakers urge to declare April 24 a Memorial Day

YEREVAN, MAY 5, ARMENPRESS. The lawmakers of the City Council of Andrushivka of Ukraine’s Zhytomyr Oblast made a decision to apply to the Supreme Rada (Parliament) and President of Ukraine with the request to declare April 24 as a Memorial Day of the victims of the Armenian people’s tragedy, analitikaua.net reports.

The lawmakers’ letter says: “By reaffirming our commitment in the international fight for prevention of genocide, restoration of rights of people who suffered genocide and establishment of historical justice, we urge you to express solidarity to the international community and declare April 24 a Memorial Day of the victims of the Armenian people’s tragedy”.

Earlier a number of local councils submitted similar letters.

As reported, over 40 thematic events were held in Ukraine on the occasion of the 102nd anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. By the initiative of the Armenian Union of Ukraine, more than 10 cross-stones dedicated to the Genocide victims have been erected in various regions of the country.
