YEREVAN, MARCH 23, ARMENPRESS. The Municipality of Yerevan has planned a number of ceremonies aimed at making the city more attractive for tourists.
Gevorg Orbelyan, Head of Tourism Department at the Yerevan Municipality, told “Armenpress” that the events will launch in late spring.
“Yerevan summer” program includes wide range of ceremonies. The events are mainly directed for tourists.
By the assistance of the Yerevan Municipality and initiative of “Preservationand DevelopmentofArmenian Culinary Traditions” NGO “Bread in mountains” dishes festival will launch on June 10.
“The program aims at gathering leading companies presenting culinary skills, residents of Yerevan and the guests in one platform to get them acquainted with Armenian traditional rich cuisine and ritual dishes. Within the framework of the event a concert will be held during which folkloric song-dance ensembles will make performances. Master classes will also be organized. In short, tasty Yerevan will be a warm place both for the local people and tourists”, Gevorg Orbelyan said.
On July 15 under “Yerevan summer” program, a “Watermelon festival” will be held in an area near Swan Lake. During this festival a concert also will be held with the participation of famous musicians. Orbelyan said during the festival games and competitions are being organized.
In early August “Yerevan taraz fest” will be held. The participants will present the public Armenian national costumes.
The next is “Beer festival” which aims at presenting the public the features of Armenian beer, as well as gather beer producing factories in one platform.
Those are the major events, however, in addition to this, the work of “Yerevan City Tour” two-story bus will launch which tours tourists around Yerevan for nearly half an hour by telling about the city in 6 languages.
“In line this we are actively engaged in marketing affairs, we present Yerevan in other platforms. Starting from this year all programs dedicated to Yerevan’s 2800 anniversary must launch. A great tourism flow is expected in 2018. There are already certain initiatives directed towards tourism, cultural events”, he said.
The Yerevan Municipality is also actively working with tourism companies aimed at including those traditional festivals in tour packages.
