Archbishop Ateshian sends condolence letter to Turkey’s Erdoğan on behalf of local Armenians

YEREVAN, DECEMBER 12, ARMENPRESS. General Vicar of the Armenian Patriarch of Constantinople AramAteshian expressed condolences to the president of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on behalf of local Armenians in Turkey on the occasion of terror act that occurred in Istanbul on December 10. “Armenpress” reports during the remembrance event organized at Dolmabahçe by Beşiktaş municipality priest Maghakya Beskizisian from Ortaköy Armenian Church read the telegram of Ateshian addressed to Erdoğan.
The General Vicar of the Armenian Patriarch of Constantinople mentioned that he learned about the attack that killed mostly law enforcement officers with deep sorrow.
“Terrorism is an attack against the right to life granted by the God to the people. Similar acts, irrespective of their root causes, always deserve condemnation by reasonable people. We wish that such crimes leading to no benefits and only bringing harm are ended.
As Armenians of Turkey we join to the prayers offered for the unity, peace and tranquility of our fatherland”, reads the statement of Ateshian.
On December 10 a terror attack was carried out in Istanbul’s Beşiktaş district. The first blast was a car bomb in a Chevrolet vehicle. According to Vice PM Nurman Kurtulmush, around 300-400kg explosive was used. The second bombing was carried out by a suicide attack.Over 40 were killed and 155 were wounded in the terror attack.
The Kurdistan Freedom Falcons (TAK) claimed responsibility for the terror attack, however, Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim said the Kurdistan Workers’ Party is responsible for the attack.
