YEREVAN, OCTOBER 1, ARMENPRESS. The Russian military has delivered about1.5 tons ofhumanitarian aid tothe one ofreturn areas forrefugees inthe Syrian city ofAleppo, spokesman forthe Russian Center forSyrian Reconciliation Daniil Rychkov said onSaturday, Sputnik News reported.
“Humanitarian cargo has been delivered toAleppo. Aid has been provided tocivilians, refugees, and the families offallen military personnel. The total weight [of cargo] is 1.5 tons,” Rychkov told journalists.
Civilians who find themselves indifficult situations have been placed inaccommodation centers forrefugees, and upto 300 families have received food subsidies, he added.
The Center forthe Reconciliation ofthe Opposing Sides inthe Syrian Arab Republic, based atHmeymim Air Base, was set upby the Russian Defense Ministry toplan, monitor and carry outpeace restoration operations inSyria. As ofMarch 2016, about683 metric tons ofhumanitarian aid and medicine had been delivered tothe Syrian provinces ofHama, Homs, Latakia, Daraa, Deir ez-Zor, Aleppo and Damascus, according tothe Russian Defense Ministry. Fighting inAleppo has escalated overthe pastfew weeks, withthe Syrian army and local militia forces having managed toencircle large groups ofmilitants ineastern districts ofAleppo. Syria has been mired incivil war since2011, withgovernment forces loyal toPresident Bashar Assad fighting numerous opposition groups, aswell asjihadi terrorists.
