YEREVAN, JULY 29, ARMENPRESS. In an interview with “Armenpress” chairman of the Armenian National Committee of Egypt Armen Mazlumyan says the Egyptian Parliament shows positive signs over the recognition of the Armenian Genocide.
“For years we are carrying out works, are presenting the real picture of the Armenian Genocide to various circles of the society including political, public, as well as scientific. In general, there is a positive attitude towards the recognition of the Armenian Genocide, including also within the MPs. In addition to that the political conditions are also favorable since the relations between Egypt and Turkey face difficult times”, Armen Mazlumyan said stating that currently the possibility of adopting the Armenian Genocide resolution is high.
As for the Turkish lobby activities in Egypt, Mazlumyan said it became rather passive in connection with the deterioration of relations with Turkey. He recalled that the Turkish Ambassador to Egypt is expelled.
A resolution has been submitted to the Parliament of Egypt according to which the massacres against Armenians in the Ottoman Empire in 1915-1922 are described as genocide. The resolution has already collected the required number of MPs’ signatories to be included in the Parliament’s session agenda. The Egyptian Parliament is comprised of 596 MPs, from which 337 have signed under the resolution.
