YEREVAN, JUNE 1, ARMENPRESS. In an interview with 2rd.am, Former President of Armenia Robert Kocharyan said the military victory euphoria in Baku after the April 4-day war is totally groundless.

“The increasing of armaments and military rhetoric of Baku, which was taking place for several years, turned into practical actions: Sabotage actions turned into military operations. Azerbaijan likely underestimated the combat efficiency of Nagorno Karabakh, as well as the readiness of the people of Nagorno Karabakh and Armenia to resist the aggression. The price of the military operations, its expanding scale, apparently became unacceptable for Baku, and the war was stopped. I wouldn’t want to assess what has happened as a victory or defeat. The Azerbaijani forces captured a couple of our positions, however didn’t solve any strategic issue. The military victory euphoria in Baku is totally groundless. And we didn’t restore what was lost, which doesn’t add optimism, regardless of the number of losses, and our casualties of the 4-day military operations are unusual and unacceptably great for us.

So , it’s not worth talking about a moral victory as well. However, it became obvious that even in conditions of unequal military balance, there is no easy military solution of the conflict, and this could really stimulate the frozen negotiating process”, Kocharyan said.

According to him, in reality Azerbaijan wasn’t ready for a long lasting war, otherwise the war wouldn’t last for only 4 days.
