Various countries celebrate May 3 as the international day of Media Freedom. The UN General Assembly with a special resolution declared May 3 as the international day of Media Freedom on December 20, 1993. In this regard numerous ceremonies are being organized in many states, including Armenia. Today on May 3 “Time for Media Freedom” annual awarding ceremony will be held. It is organized by the Yerevan Press Club, Media Initiatives Center and Journalists Union of Armenia.

Media has a significant role in the context of the current situation in Karabakh-Azerbaijani line of contact. Information security expert Samvel Martirosyan will speak about issues related to media freedom such as where media freedom ends and the security begins, what are the limits of media freedom in the state of war and other issues.

The official opening ceremony of the Olympic Games will take place in the legendary “Maracanã” Stadium in Rio on August 5. Within 17 days on August 5-21, nearly 10.500 athletes from 205 countries will compete for 306 sets of medals. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Brazil to Armenia Edson Marinho Duarte Monteiro today will present to journalists the process of preparatory works of the Olympic Games. He will speak about the Armenia-Brazil relations and the joint programs between the two states.

Third-year student from Linguistic University after V. Bryusov is expelled from the University. Student’s mother will present the details of the incident.

The issue of limiting the import of Turkish products to Armenia is in the context of consumers’ security. The President of “Consumers’ Association” Armen Poghosyan will speak about the issues related to the limits of import of Turkish products to Armenia and whether in this case there is an alternative or not.

A concert will be held devoted to the 20th anniversary of “Speghani” Choir in the Komitas Museum-Institute. The founder, artistic director and conductor of the choir is Sarina Avtandilyan. The concert includes works of Komitas and contemporary composers such as Yervand Yerkanyan, Jenny Asatryan.

Embassy of Switzerland to Armenia and “Dialogue of Cultures” organization present the exhibition entitled “Fifteen outlooks” by Swiss artist Felice Varini in the “Armenian Art” center.
