YEREVAN, MARCH 4, ARMENPRESS. The art of the Neapolitan pizza-maker is to be Italy's sole contender to join UNESCO's World Heritage List, the national commission for UNESCO decided on March 4 on a proposal by the agriculture ministry and with the backing of the foreign, university, environment and economy ministries, “Armenpress” reports citing ANSA website.
It has been chosen because "it represents Italy all over the world". Agriculture Minister Maurizio Martina said "we are continuing to valorise 'made in Italy' after the great success of Expo". The art of the Neapolitan pizzaiuoli is aiming to make the UN cultural organization's Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
Former agriculture minister Alfonso Pecoraro Scanio, promoter of the #Pizza Unesco campaign, voiced "great satisfaction" and vowed to bring "the first million signatures" from Italy and the rest of the world to Paris March 14.
