Yerevan Bestseller 3/49: Otar Chiladze’s “The Basket” is on the rankings

YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 12, ARMENPRESS. "The Little Prince" by French author Antoine de Saint-Exupéry tops this week's "Bestseller Books List" introduced by "Armenpress" News Agency. The novella is both the most read and most translated book in the French language, and was voted the best book of the 20th century in France. The book was translated into more than 190 languages.

“The Art of Dedication or Dithyramb to a Rose” written by Edgar Harutyunyan occupies the 2nd position in the list.

"Love in the Time of Cholera" by Colombian author Gabriel García Márquez comes the 3rd on the list. In their youth, Florentino Ariza and Fermina Daza fall passionately in love. When Fermina eventually chooses to marry a wealthy, well-born doctor, Florentino is devastated, but he is a romantic. As he rises in his business career he whiles away the years in 622 affairs--yet he reserves his heart for Fermina. Her husband dies at last, and Florentino purposefully attends the funeral. Fifty years, nine months, and four days after he first declared his love for Fermina, he will do so again.

"One Hundred Years of Solitude"again by Columbian author Gabriel García Márquez occupies the 4th place. One Hundred Years of Solitude tells the multi-generational story of the Buendía family, whose patriarch, José Arcadio Buendía, founds the town of Macondo, the metaphoric Colombia.

“The Fault in Our Stars” by John Green tops this week's "Bestseller Books List" is the 5th in the rankings. Despite the tumor-shrinking medical miracle that has bought her a few years, Hazel has never been anything but terminal, her final chapter inscribed upon diagnosis. But when a gorgeous plot twist named Augustus Waters suddenly appears at Cancer Kid Support Group, Hazel’s story is about to be completely rewritten.

Insightful, bold, irreverent, and raw, The Fault in Our Stars is award-winning-author John Green’s most ambitious and heartbreaking work yet, brilliantly exploring the funny, thrilling, and tragic business of being alive and in love. The book was translated into Armenian by Edit Print Publishing house, by Alina Mirzoyan.

"1984" by George Orwell is on the 6th place of Bestseller Books List introduced by "Armenpress" News Agency. While 1984 has come and gone, Orwell's narrative is more timely that ever. 1984 presents a "negative utopia", that is at once a startling and haunting vision of the world — so powerful that it's completely convincing from start to finish. No one can deny the power of this novel, its hold on the imaginations of entire generations of readers, or the resiliency of its admonitions — a legacy that seems to grow, not lessen, with the passage of time.

Dan Brown’s “Inferno” comes next on our list. The book’s heroes are moving by the trace of talented scientist’s horrible message fascinated by the obsessed idea on Earth and humanity's salvation. American professor and his quick-witted assistant are in crazy searches in Florence, Venice and Istanbul. Are the efforts futile?... The novel presents constant escapes and searches: Dante Alighieri’s inferno is emerging from time to time in front of the reader and not only in the secret lines of the "Divine comedy" but also in renaissance paintings of great masters.

Georgian prominent writer Otar Chiladze’s “The Basket”, published in 2003, is on the 8th position. A Saga-novel, overtly portraying 'empire of evil', its consequences and a long journey of Georgian society and culture, won top literary award SABA as the best novel of the year. The book was published by “Antares” publishing house.The novel was translated from Georgian by the prominent translator Anahit Bostanjyan.

Grig’s “Jesus Cat” comes next in the list. This is the first book of the young prose writer. The novels involved in this work bring forward a unique writing style on the one hand and an original vision on the world and people on the other. This combination forms characters in Grig’s creative space, which help to discover another invisible side of life. The book was published by “Antares”. Editor – Gurgen Khanjyan.

“Adultery” novel by Brazilian authorPaulo Coelho concludes the list. It is the sixteenth major book by Coelho, and touches on the theme of adultery.Adulterywas written in Coelho's native language, Portuguese. The Portuguese edition was released on April 10th, 2014. The (American) English edition is published byKnopf and it is scheduled along with the Spanish edition to be published on August 19th, 2014.
