Armenian PM highlights participation of political forces in works of anti-corruption council

YEREVAN, DECEMBER 28, ARMENPRESS. The second session of the Anti-Corruption Council chaired by Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Hovik Abrahamyan took place in the Government on December 28. Representatives of political forces, civil society, and international organizations took part in the session.
As “Armenpress” was informed from Information and Public Relations Department of the Government of Armenia, the Council discussed the implementation results of the assignments of the first session. It was reported that that the plan for fighting corruption was confirmed by the Government during this period, the agreement with US Agency for International Development “Assistance to the implementation of Armenia’s anti-corruption strategy” was approved which will soon be signed and will come into reality. Steps are taken to join Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative(EITI), create a platform for cooperation with the business environment and other issues. Considering that Armenian Government has already given consent to the abovementioned agreement with the USAID, PM Abrahamyan assigned the staff of the Government to continue the effective cooperation with the USAID and to sign the agreement at the beginning of 2016.
Summing up the results of the session, the PM highlighted more active participation and involvement of political forces and civil society in the works of anti-corruptioncouncil which will make the Council more productive. Hovik Abrahamyan stated the readiness to discuss and jointly implement any reasonable suggestion or initiative.
