Thousands of Chinese dancer pensioners set world record

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 10, ARMENPRESS. An incredible video has emerged online of 18,472 Chinese pensioners dancing in unison and setting a new Guinness World Record at the same time.

The record breaking event took place on Saturday in Xianghe, north China’s Hebei Province.“Armenpress” reports about this, citing The Dailymail website.

Going by the name of ‘The Red Dance Alliance’, the group is now the largest group of people to perform a single dance at the same time, according toPeople’s Daily Online.

The 90-second video shows men and women tightly packed into lines of around 100. They are dancing to the famous Chinese pop song ‘Little Apple’ and are all wearing red uniforms.

Dancers from all over Beijing got together for the record in Xianghe.

Out of the 18,472 participants, 41 were disqualified. This means the record set was 18,431 synchronised dancers.

The previous record was previously held by more than 17,000 line dancers from Atlanta in the USA in 2007.

People dancing in unison outdoors in China are not uncommon.Known as square dancing, it is seen as a good way to stay fit and healthy.

China also currently holds the world record for the largest line dance held in more than one venue at once.

25,703 participants took part in the record attempt in Hangzhou, east China, last year.
