Komitas monument to open in Saint Petersburg

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 6, ARMENPRESS. For the first time Komitas memorial will open in Vasilyevsky Island, Saint Petersburg on November 6. “Armenpress” reports the information referring to TASS news agency which was informed by the press service of the city Government.

“The initiative of erecting the monument to composer Komitas belongs to the representation of Yerevan Municipality in Saint Petersburg with the support of the Administration of Saint Petersburg’sVasileostrovsky Region,” press service representative noted.

Governor of St. Petersburg Georgy Poltavchenkoand Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan will attend the solemn opening ceremony of the monument.

Armenian community has been residing in Vasilyevsky Island since foundation times of the city. The 3-meter granite statue of the composer is placed in “Kamskiy sad” not far from Smolenka River.

Earlier monuments were erected in Detroit, Paris, Québec etc.
