Turkish pro-governmental mass media spread disinformation that allegedly Armenians are to blame for tension in the country

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 14, ARMENPRESS. Turkey’s President Recep TayyipErdoğanhas turned the country into a battlefield only to preserve his power and introduce presidential system. This is the opinion of Pakrat Estukyan, the editor of theArmenianedition of Agos in Turkey.

“Armenpress” reports that Estukyan emphasized during September 14 press conference in Yerevan that in order to reach that goal,Erdoğanhas waged a war against the 20 million Kurds living in Turkey and conducts military operations in Kurdish populated large cities.

“The situation in the country is terrible. Pro-governmental mass media spread disinformation and the secret services conduct inspections and often lie that allegedly Armenians are in the center of all this”, Estukyan emphasized, adding that it is often broadcasted that local Armenians are to blame for the situation, but not the Kurds.

Estukyan says that Turkish-Armenians have become much politicized recently. If during the previous elections Armenians voted for right-wing parties, this time Armenians voted for the People’s Democratic Party. “Greeks, Assyrians and Jews living in Turkey have also voted for the People’s Democratic Party in the last elections. The main concern of Istanbul Armenians is the spread of disinformation. We also know that the Turkish secret services have the information about the working hours of churches and at what time the shrines are crowded or when classes are over at schools so that they could choose convenient moment to attack”, said Estukyan, adding that the situation will further intensify until November 1 (the day of early parliamentary election of Turkey) and it will beneficial only for the President of the country.
