Requiem Service performed at Assyrian Church of Verin Dvin

ARTASHAT, 9 MARCH, ARMENPRESS. The Mar Tuma Church of the Verin Dvin Assyrian community of Ararat Province performed on Sunday a Requiem Service for the souls of the Assyrian residents of the 32 villages along the Khabur River of Syria to rest in peace. After the Requiem Service, spiritual pastor of the Assyrian Church in Armenia, Father Nikodem Yukhanayev mentioned that the Requiem Service was performed for the peaceful Assyrian civilians who died on the night of February 22 and those who were captured by extreme Islamists.

As “Armenpress” reports, the priest, who was performing the Requiem Service, read the prayer and asked God for peace to save all captives around the world. Among those attending the Requiem Service were President of the “Atur” Association of the Assyrians of Armenia Arsen Mikhailov, Merited Artist of the Republic of Armenia Razmik Khosroev, historian-genocide expert Anahit Khosroeva, leader of the Verin Dvin community Lyudmila Petrova, school principal Aida Lazareva, teachers, the faithful Assyrians and others.

The school currently has nearly 280 schoolchildren, of which 180 are Assyrians. Most of the schoolchildren got accepted to universities last year.
