Armenian community of Georgia has outstanding contribution to strengthening of Georgia’s statehood: Ilia II

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 25, ARMENPRESS: On September 25, Catholicos-Patriarch of All GeorgiaIlia II met with representatives of the Armenian community of Georgia. “Georgia” newspaper informed Armenpress about this.

During the meeting the Catholicos referred to the centuries-long friendship of Armenia and Georgia, stressing that our two peoples, being ancient Christian nations, remained committed to their belief and achieved independent statehood.

“We live in very difficult times. International relations are too complicated. Armenia and Georgia are Christian oases in the Muslim world. I remember my meeting with the Pope of Rome in Vatican. He took the map, looked at the position of Georgia and Armenia and said that Georgia and Armenia have a very complicated geographical position, that they are Christian oases. Therefore, we should be particularly careful to each other. Very often this or that representative of our peoples, be them Armenian or Georgian, make such statements that harm our relations,” Ilia II said.

Speaking of the Georgian-Armenian community, His Holiness underscored that it is the integral part of Georgia and has outstanding contribution to strengthening and prosperity of the Georgian statehood.

Wrapping up the meeting, the Catholicos blessed and addressed good wishes to President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan and Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II.
