Hundreds gathered in Beirut’s Martyrs' Square for an Armenian Genocide commemoration ceremony organized by the three Armenian political parties of Lebanon, An Nahar newspaper reported.
April 24 marks the 110th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.
“We, the sons and daughters of genocide survivors, have come here today to once again commemorate our martyrs and condemn the premeditated crime perpetrated by the Ottoman Empire against our people during WWI,” the Lebanese-Armenian community said in a statement.
“We strongly believe that Turkey’s denial of the Armenian Genocide and impunity have led to subsequent violence, massacres and crimes against humanity which continue against our people to this day. The latest of them was the complete forced displacement of the Armenian population of Nagorno-Karabakh/Artsakh by the Azerbaijani regime. We seek to achieve a main humanitarian goal, that is, to prevent the repetition of such crimes and tragedies anywhere around the world. We reiterate our commitment to continue our struggle for truth and justice,” the Lebanese-Armenian community added.
