VARDENIS, JUNE 30, ARMENPRESS. In Vardenis the devastating whirlwind caused major damage. The wind uprooted dozens of fruit and decorative trees, damaged electricity and gas supply systems, drove, tore and threw away roofs of more than 50 houses, crushed the glass of windows, caused physical injuries to 2 children and one adult citizen. In his interview with “Armenpress”, the Head of fire-fighting station in Vardenis of Gegharkunik region’s rescue service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Armenia Mnatsakan Postoyan noted that the whirlwind was 1.5 kilometers long and 500 meters wide, and was so strong, that it tore and hit a "Kamaz" car to the wall of a garage 5 meters away.
At this moment, the commissions of Gegharkunik regional administration and Vardenis municipality are visiting affected homes and calculating the amount of damages in two working groups.
In the city of Vardenis, on June 29, at 16:30 p.m., a devastating whirlwind was registered, causing great damage in the city's south-western district.
