YEREVAN, JUNE 17, ARMENPRESS. Today, Armenian chess legend Tigran Petrosian would have turned 85 years old.

Tigran Petrosian was born in 1929. He was a World Chess Champion from 1963 to 1969. He began to play chess since 1940s, training at the Tiflis Palace of Pioneers under the auspices of Archil Ebralidze. He won nine gold medals in the Soviet Chess Olympiads. Petrosian was nicknamed "Iron Tigran" due to his almost impenetrable defensive playing style, which emphasized safety above all else.
