Aleppo Armenians reject news on forced Islamization of Syrian Armenians

YEREVAN, JANUARY 13, ARMENPRESS: The information, according to which the Armenian families in Syria are forced to accept Islam, does not correspond to the reality. The administrator of the Facebook group of the Armenians of Aleppo, Robert Sulahian, stated about it at the press conference held on January 13. “Therewe haveinformation that the Armenian families are being Islamized. That has never happened”, - said Sulahian, Armenpress reports. According to him, the murder of the father and the son Hovhannes and Minas Levinyans, kidnapped by the extremist radical groups in Syria, was carried out because of the ransom and not because of non-accepting the Islam. Robert Sulahian highlighted the necessity to establish a Syrian Armenians-related information center at the Ministry of Diaspora of the Republic of Armenia to prevent distortion of information.

The founder of the group of the Aleppo Armenians, Hrach Kalsahakian, also believes that the information that the Armenians are forced to accept Islam is not true. “I watched the spread video, in which somebody tells in Arabian that he changed his religious belief. First it is not clear if that person is Armenian or not. Besides, it is not spoken about forced change of belief”, - said Kalsahakian.
