Armenia can get use of “Millennium Challenges” program financing next year: Karen Hilliard

YEREVAN, DECEMBER 11, ARMENPRESS. After 2008, Armenia for the first time corresponds to the standards of “Millennium Challenges” program and can turn for receiving financing. The Director of the Armenian Mission of USAID KarenHilliard informed it in a conversation with the journalists. According to her, Armenia cannot receive financing this year. “The competitiveness is so high that I think Armenia can join the programs only next year. Armenia must carry out all the reforms in order to turn to “Millennium Challenges” program,” KarenHilliard said as reported by “Armenpress”.

It became clear after the session of the Armenian-American Intergovernmental Commission held in Washington, DC that Armenia has started to meet the conditions of “Millennium Challenges” program. Before that Armenia could not expect any programs from “Millennium Challenges” program, as there are standards there which Armenia did not meet. Those standards included assessments related to democracy, corruption index, transparency and other factors.
