RF Consul General to Gyumri celebrated May triple holidays with local authorities

GYUMRI, MAY 9, ARMENPRESS: The events devoted to the May victories were held on May 8 and 9 in Shirak Marz with the joint efforts of the regional and local authorities, the Consulate of the Russian Federation to Gyumri and Russian military base. As Armenpress correspondent was reported by the Consul General of the Russian Federation Vasily Korchmar, “Due to the May victories we all exist today. So, we should thank for that all those people, who achieved these victories at the cost of their blood. May 9 is not only Russia’s victory but the victory of all the former Soviet republics. The Armenian nation celebrates today the 21st anniversary of the Liberation of Shoushi as well”.

The Great Patriotic Warwas a stage in the World War II, when the Fascist Germany attacked theSoviet Unionon June 22 1941. The severe and bloody war finally ended with the victory of the Soviet Union on May 2 1945, when the Soviet forces occupiedBerlin. By the decree of theSoviet Union, the day of May 9 was announced to be a holiday in the country and was called the Day of Great Victory. About 600,000 Armenians participated in the war.
