Armenia successfully combines the cooperation with CSTO and NATO: Serzh Sargsyan

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 6, ARMENPRESS: Armenia successfully combines the cooperation within the framework of Collective Security Treaty Organization and NATO. Armenian President came forth with a statement in the course of joint press conference with NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmusen on September 6. In the words of the head of the country Armenia has consistently announced that its membership in CSTO is integral and very significant military political security component.
''We were high aware and till now are consistent to CSTO principles and ideas. I honestly do not believe NATO and CSTO are contradicting organizations. I do not consider that member states should not cooperate. Vice versa that cooperation should achieve the stability of the partners" the President stated. Serzh Sargsyan stressed the fact Armenia should never give room to any confrontation or damage of relations. ''This is the goal of our cooperation, reportedly cooperating with NATO is beneficial for our state. In the course of the meeting with NATO Secretary General I frankly told cooperating with NATO is in the interests of our country'' the head of the country told, Armenpress reports.
Collective Security Treaty Organization is an intergovernmental military alliance which was signed on 15 May 1992. Armenia, Belarus, Russia, Kazakhstan, Ghrghzstane, Tajikistani and Uzbekistan are organization member states.
Armenia and NATO cooperate actively in the fields of democratic, institutional and military reforms, and the practical relations comprise many other spectors, including peacekeeping missions. Individual Partnership Action Plan (IPAP) indicates Armenia-NATO cooperation program as well as comprises a wide range of reforms. Armenia wants to deepen the political and practical cooperation with NATO, yet in accordance to official stance does not seek to join NATO.
