Armenia increases export of fish to Russia

YEREVAN, JULY 14, ARMENPRESS: Fish breeding continues to remain one of the developing branches of the economy. Currently 250-255 fish breeding economies are operating in Armenia.

As fish breeding department of the Ministry of Agriculture briefed Armenpress, the prospects to boost the market mainly depend on the development stage and export process.During the last 2 years lake fish production volumes have increased about 23%.

24 organizations have permission to export fish to the Russian Federation from Armenia, the Ministry of Agriculture undertakes steps to expand the list. In 2011 1500-1600 tons of fish was exported, mainly sturgeon and trout species, and the great part of which to Russia. If draw a parallel between 2010 ( 428 tons of fish) and 2011 data , there is an increase by four times, concerningexport volumes to Russia . Althoughofficial data of 2012 are not published, yet in comparison with the previous year export volumes have substantially increased.

Aimed at developing fish breeding Armenia joined Central Asian and Caucasus countries’ fish breeding international committee in 2011. This will promote the introduction of modern technologies in fisheries, the integration of leading international fish breeding institutions to our Republic and reportedly the launch of joint progrms.
