YEREVAN, JULY 12, ARMENPRESS: It is known that each talented film director posses inexplicable, subtle humor, regardless the genre, may it be drama or comedy. The talk with Ukrainian-Armenian film director Roman Balayan came to prove the truthfulness of the saying .

He is the author of well known films such as :’’ Lone Wolf’’, ‘’Birds of Paradise’’ , ‘’Kashtanka’’, ‘’Flights in dream and reality’’, ’’Kiss’’, "Save me, my charm’’. He was nominated and won several international prizes. His 1977 film Lone Wolf was entered into the 28th Berlin International Film Festival and his 2008 film Birds of Paradise was shown at the 30th Moscow International Film Festival.Armenpress reporter had an interview with Ukrainian-Armenian film director Roman Balayan (born April 15, 1941, Nerkin Horatagh, Nagorno-Karabakh.

- Like every talented artist, you are a citizen of the world. However in the cinematography are you Armenian, Ukrainian and Russian film director?

-Here Armenians say I am Armenian director, in the Ukraine I am Ukrainian, in Russia-Russian, yet I am Ukrainian film director with Armenian roots.

-You had two idols in your life, in the name of your mother and Parajanov. Why you did not shoot film about the people you loved most?

-I tried to shoot film depicting my childhood; it even would be called’’ 17 novels’’. Later I came across of such one, and did not undertake it. What refers to the film about Parjanov, recently I have received an offer, though refused it. Currently I am assisting Serzh Avetikyan with his ‘’ Parajanov. Beautiful lover’’ film.

To the question whose praise does he cares most, that of the audience or the critics, the director was quoted as saying, ‘’ Currently the appreciation of my audience is more important for me, yet there were times I more cared the prizes, the criticisms…
