OSCE/ODIHR to observe the parliamentary elections in Armenia

The daily Haykakan Zhamanak writes that the Central Electoral Commission is to send invitation to the OSCE/ODIHR to observe the parliamentary elections in Armenia, but the CEC has not done it yet, spokesperson for the CEC Hermine Harutyunyan told the daily. According to the spokesperson the invitation will be sent only after the day of elections is officially appointed. The paper says it is being done by the President and it may be done in late February. The paper says in response to its question whether the invitation won’t be late, Harutyunyan said: “I think we will convey the invitation on time, like it has always been, in accordance with the law.” The paper says spokesman of the Armenian Foreign Ministry Tigran Balayan refused to comment on the situation connected with the observers, saying that the FM is not dealing with the invitation of observing missions.

The semi-weekly 168 Zham writes that at the regular congress of the Republican Party of Armenia the new executive body of the party will be elected. The paper says it has learnt that essential changes are going to take place in the 14-member body. According to the circulating talks, Diaspora Minister Hranush Hakobyan, MP Harutyun Pambukyan, former head of the staff of the President Karen Karapetyan, chairman of the NA’s State and Legal Affairs Standing Committee will not be included there. The paper says some even do not exclude the withdrawal of former NA chairman Hovik Abrahamyan, RPA unique ideological figure Mushegh Lalayan. Instead, continues the paper, NA chairman Samvel Nikoyan and deputy chairman Eduard Sharmazanov, Yerevan mayor Taron Margaryan and other new figures will be included in the executive body of the party. By the way, the paper says, its sources did not exclude new resignations to win the hearts of people.
