Italian ambassador briefs Armenian president on latest developments in economic cooperation

Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan has received Italy’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Armenia, Alessandro Ferranti, on the occasion of Italy’s National Day.

According to the Armenian president’s office, Khachaturyan welcomed the ambassador and said:

“I am pleased to have the opportunity to congratulate you on the occasion of your national holiday. In 1946, the Italian people faced the great responsibility of choosing the path their country would follow. They chose freedom and democracy, and over the years you have travelled a very difficult road. As an independent state, we made a similar choice in 1991, although we are still going through various trials and challenges.

We all see Italy’s successes and achievements. I would also like to express special gratitude to Italy and the Italian government for the support they provide to the Republic of Armenia. We also share longstanding historical ties stretching back centuries and are essentially guided by the same values. In this regard, Italy’s support and cooperation have a special role and significance for our country and our people.”

Ambassador Ferranti thanked the president for the reception, saying:

“Mr President, I would like to express my sincere gratitude for this reception, for your congratulations and for your friendly attitude. I would also like to convey to you the best wishes of the President of the Italian Republic, Sergio Mattarella.”

The meeting focused on issues on the Armenia-Italy bilateral agenda and prospects for expanding cooperation between the two countries.

The Italian ambassador briefed the president on the latest developments in economic cooperation.

Both sides welcomed the growing cooperation in the tourism sector, noting that the increase in tourist flows reflects strengthening mutual interest and trust between the two countries.

The two officials also exchanged views on opportunities to study and share Italy’s experience in education, culture, high technologies and other fields. In this context, they highly valued the effective cooperation between Armenian and Italian universities.

They also discussed the continued development of cooperation in the preservation and restoration of cultural heritage.

During the meeting, the ambassador reaffirmed Italy’s support for the process of visa liberalisation for citizens of the Republic of Armenia seeking entry to the Schengen Area.
