Serious works are being carried out in Syunik toward the increase of women's role in the areas of business, tourism and politics. The "Kapan Women Resource Center" NGO, established two years ago with the assistance of the OSCE Yerevan Office, has already anticipated the programs of the coming year which mainly include projects on increasing the engagement of women. One of the main issues of the organization is having women candidates at the coming elections of local self-governmental bodies and assisting them. By the way, in the history of local self-governmental bodies, Kapan community had only one women member at the Council of Elders. Currently all the eleven members of the Council are men. Summing up the two years' work the newly elected chairwoman of the organization Kristine Saghatelyan considered their major achievement the employment of 25 women of the region.
The center cooperates with the governor's office, Kapan municipality, regional educational establishments, women resources centers of Meghri and Goris.
