Minister says Armenia full member of European educational family

The reforms in the sphere of education as well as steps addressed toward maintenance of our place in the international platforms are one of the important issues of the agenda of the Ministry of Education and Science. Armenpress news agency spoke with Minister Armen Ashotyan about the internationalization of Armenia’s educational system and its results.

- Mr. Ashotyan how much is the internationalization being highlighted in the sphere of education? Which place does Armenia occupy in this regard?

- In the whole world education is being formed as a united phenomenon, and the internationalization is one of the peculiarities of education today when students, professors, best ideas, knowledge and technology are freely moving. It is one of the most global phere in this age of human activity where there are a lot of advantages for Armenia. Here the Armenian educational system is allowed to see the international experience, approaches, technology, ensure implementation of exchange programs of students, professors.

- Can we register that today Armenia is a full member of the European educational family?

- Armenia has successfully integrated into European higher educational territory and today is considered a full member of the European educational family.

- With what countries is Armenia closely cooperating today?

- Russia is one of our most important partners in the sphere of humanitarian cooperation. Germany, France, the USA are our biggest partners as well. Intensive relations have been formed with Iran, India, Georgia. We have a number of cooperation contracts with European countries as well. Concrete results have been achieved in cooperation over opening Lomonosov Moscow State University branch in Armenia. A relevant task group has been set up and during a year we will try to give final definition to this idea. Subjects having real demand will be taught in the university.

- Within the framework of his visit President of France Nicolas Sarkozy stated that a French lyceum will be opened in Armenia. In what phases are the works?

- We have already started negotiations with the French party to prepare an inter-state, inter-governmental agreement with which the French lyceum – high school – may be established. The contract is being worked out and has a long way to pass. The process must be organized within the framework of the RA legislation ensuring the participation of the French stakeholders.
