Edgar Shatiryan has announced his resignation as vice-president of Armenia’s Constitutional Court.
Shatiryan made the announcement while speaking to journalists on 6 November, following the election of the Constitutional Court’s president. He will continue to serve as a judge of the court.
“I will continue to serve as a Constitutional Court judge. Given that the prevailing circumstances were confirmed, I considered it impossible to continue serving as vice-president of the Constitutional Court,” he said.
Vladimir Vardanyan was elected president of the Constitutional Court on 6 November. Shatiryan had also stood for the position.
According to a statement issued by the court, neither candidate received the number of votes required for election in the first round of the secret ballot. A second round was held, in which Vardanyan was elected president.
Neither candidate had secured the required number of votes in either round of the election held on 14 October, and the election was declared inconclusive. A new president had to be elected after Arman Dilanyan’s six-year term as Constitutional Court president ended on 12 October. Dilanyan continues to serve as a judge.
Shatiryan was elected a Constitutional Court judge on 15 September 2020 and vice-president of the court on 5 December 2025.
