Tigran Sargsyan: “Our Aim is to Develop Local Self-Government in Armenia As Much As Possible”

RA Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan received today a delegation of the Council of Europe Congress of Local and Regional Authorities. The delegation arrived in Armenia at the invitation of the Armenian side for conducting the Congress's Current Affairs Committee's session in Yerevan.
"I am happy that the venue of your next meeting was Yerevan. The issues you discussed are topical for us as well. We follow your sessions attentively and become aware of the discussed issues and approaches. Our aim is to develop the local self-government in Armenia as much as possible. From this position, the issues of local self-government for strengthening democracy can have an essential role in the formation of civil society," the RA prime minister said.
An official from the information and PR department of the RA Government told Armenpress that the members of the delegation expressed gratitude to the prime minister for the reception and presented the state of democracy and development tendencies in their countries.
Emin Yeritsyan, chairman of the Current Affairs Committee, head of the Armenian delegation to the Council of Europe Congress of Local and Regional Authorities, spoke on the activities of the Committee and presented the process of the session's works, the reports to be made at the next session, which is expected to be held October in Strasbourg. He mentioned that the intended outgoing sessions will give an opportunity to get acquainted with the member-states better and deepen the cooperation.
Emphasizing the development of local democracy and the steps aimed at the development of local self-government, Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan said this year is the 15th anniversary of Armenia's local self-government and informed that an anniversary committee was established for organizing the celebration of the local self-government system's investment.
