YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 15, ARMENPRESS: The environment is of vital significance for a person, thus it is important to solve the issues existing there. Armenpress news agency spoke with the director of Ecologanoosphere research center Armen Saghatelyan about the environment issues and steps for their solution.
- Mr Saghatelyan, which are the prior issues of the environment?
- From the environment issues we may note the existence of radon, absence of protective events, not awareness of the population. In our days the pollution of hard metals reached such volumes that they interfere the food chain. The metals are the most dangerous polluters as they affect two main functions of human body – reproduction and inheritance. Together with all this they are also cancroid. Today there is a need of clean agricultural food and its absence may affect the gene pool. This process has not started just now, it occurred gradually, just in our days the volumes of pollution increased.
- Can the climate changes influence the environment?
- The climate changes may give birth to some phenomena. The bright example is the Nubarashen pesticide damp. During the years when the pesticides were buried there it was a landslide zone, but the landslides were “asleep” as there was a real dessert there. But the climate changed, heavy rains started, landslides activated destroying the pesticides and they gradually started going down reaching almost Shorbulakh. In case the heavy rains continue they will move to the Ararat valley.
- Is there part of guilt of our population. Which is our role?
- The people must be more demanding toward the state bodies responsible for all it. Now the rescue service of the RA Emergency Situations Ministry has activated, but all this natural issues may be compared with illness: it is easier to prevent the illness than try to treat after.
- Which are the prior steps of solution of the issue?
- First of all the control must be stricken toward enterprises. No one must be forgiven for polluting, violation of any element of law. We are in seismically active zone and the possibility of earthquake can never be excluded and ignoring such phenomena and violation of worked out standards and laws are extremely dangerous.
