YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 2, ARMENPRESS: Armenpress news agency spoke with vice-director of the Armenian Genocide-Museum Institute Suren Manukyan about the coming steps toward the international recognition of the Armenian Genoide and propaganda policy.
- Azerbaijan has managed to widely spread disinformation among the international scientific society and people about the Nagorno Karabakh conflict. What is the situation regarding the Armenian Genocide?
- The Armenian Genocide was not propogated (may be this is a wrong word but we do not have equivalent) as much as the Turks did. The Turkish denial is expressed so much that billion dollars were spent for writing the word “genocide” in commas.
Nevertheless, it was written about Genocide. And everyone in the world wanted to understand what they are denying so much, what really happened. We would never be able to raise so much noise with our resources and opportunities over any issue. I must unequivocally state that the fact of the Armenian Genocide is not a subject for disputes in the international scientific circles. The whole materials that Turks are throwing to the scientific sphere is not treated seriously. Everyone accepts it as denial of the Genocide which in reality has a very bad impact on Turkey’s image.
As to the recognition of Nagorno Karabakh, I agree with the scientist working in this sphere, we have lost a lot of time and Azerbaijan during this period registered serious success in the information war. May be the reason was that after the Genocide with the fear not to be considered defeated we did not hurry to work in that direction, while in the NK issue the victory was unequivocally ours and after the victory we remained careless now yielding the fruits of our inactivity.
- How are we getting prepared for the 100th anniversary of Genocide? There is an opinion that on that occasion Turkey started allowing reconstruction of Armenian monuments, displays ethnic and religious tolerance.
- We go on working with our program. “The 100th Anniversary”, of course, supposes special preparadeness, but essentially it does not have impact on the process of recognition of the Genocide.
Genocide is the greatest crime committed against humanity, it does not have remoteness period: 100 years before or after or on 100th year – its recognition is always necessary. We also must understand that this anniversary does not have impact on the process of its recognition.
More impressive events will be organized, scitnific studies will be published, such samples will be exhibitied that till now were kept because of unsatisfactory building conditions. Currently the upper floor of the Genocide Museum-Institute is provided and below is the administrative part.
With the program initially approved by the government, it is planned to provide a separate building for the administrative work and the two floors of the museum-institute provide for exhibitions. The material is huge and there is a great issue to show the most impressive ones.
- December 9 is the international day of prevention of Genocides. Will any peculiar event be conducted?
- On the day of adoption of convention on Genocide prevention and applying of punishment for commiting them a scientific conference will kick off in Yerevan with the participation of thirty specialists who will discuss topics connected with the issue.
