YEREVAN, AUGUST 17, ARMENPRESS: The issue on ensuring the servicemen of the Armenian Armed Forces with apartments is under the limelight of the state. “Armenpress” news agency spoke with the head of the Defense Ministry’s Social Protection of Servicemen Department, Colonel Suren Harutyunyan.
- What steps does the state undertake to solve the apartment issues of the servicemen?
- Ensuring apartments for the servicemen of the Armenian Defense Ministry is being carried out through provision of money compensation against the construction of serving dwelling houses and rented apartments.
The apartment ensuring process launched from the day of creation of the army by using the apartments passed from the USSR army as well as purchased apartments or those acquired by the financial compensation to former renters. The new service apartment fund has started forming from 1998 with the construction of the apartment fund which got new impetus from 2007. As a result of the wide-scale apartment construction till now 40 dwelling buildings have been exploited with 1024 service apartments.
- How many servicemen are involved in the list of people needing apartments? How many servicemen do annually get apartments? How many servicemen will this year celebrate house warming?
- About 1744 servicemen and 165 pensioners are included in the list of those needing families. 688 of servicemen and 67 pensioners are in Yerevan and 1033 servicemen and 98 pensioners in provinces. The mentioned 1744 do not include those who have got apartments from 2007 till now.
In spite of the apartment construction the DM needs 2006 service apartments (736 in Yerevan and 1270 in provinces) which has been calculated stemming from the number of servicemen getting compensation for the rented apartment.
With the 2010-2011 program it is expected to build another 11 dwelling buildings in Yerevan and in provinces and 327 servicemen will get apartments.
- Do you only build new dwelling houses for the solution of the apartment issues of the servicemen or you also provide money for acquiring apartments?
- Currently the Defense Ministry builds new dwelling houses and apartments for the servicemen but irrespective of the apartment construction volume the demand for the permanent apartment fund not only reduces but grows as during the recent years in parallel with the apartment construction the number of registered servicemen rises: in 2006-2009 1229 servicemen have been registered.
