YEREVAN, MARCH 15, ARMENPRESS: The protocols directed toward regulation of Armenian-Turkish relations are in a crisis stage, but it does not mean that the process is wholly frozen, Director of the Caucasus Institute, Political Analyst Alexander Iskandaryan said today at a press conference. According to him, the Turkish president cannot say that he recedes from the process of regulating relations with Armenia. This version is not profitable for it. “In the end how long can the Armenian-Turkish border be closed? All the same, it must be opened, be it after several months or years,” A. Iskandaryan said.

The political analyst is of the opinion that Turkey looks upon the adoption of the resolutions on the Armenian Genocide in the Swedish parliament and U.S. House Committee on Foreign Affairs steps directed against it. “The recognition of the Armenian genocide is serious pressure on Turkey; moreover, that pressure is gradually growing. It is obvious that large states want Turkey to ratify the protocols, but in my opinion, similar pressures are not sufficient for reaching a desirable result,” A. Iskandaryan said. He finds that everything is possible in politics, but the possibility that the protocols will be ratified till April 24, is very little.

In regard to the question whether the word of “genocide” will be pronounced by US President Barack Obama on April 24, A. Iskandaryan said “no”. “Whatever happens, the word “genocide” will not be pronounced by B. Obama. He will brand the act of genocide with numerous other formulations, but the word “genocide” will not be uttered,” the speaker noted.

Referring to Nagorno Karabakh conflict regulation, A. Iskandaryan said that no change is expected in near future. According to him, conversations, according to which the issue is solved or abrupt changes will soon be registered are voiced from 1989. “While observing the current situation, we obviously see that no distinct activity has been implemented thanks to which we can suggest that very soon Karabakh conflict will find a solution. Similar rumors have been heard for many times,” A. Iskandaryan said.
