Turkish analyst says Washington accuses Ankara

ANKARA, FEBRUARY 23, ARMENPRESS: “Protocols on normalization of Armenian-Turkish protocols day by day lose their attractiveness and that is why Washington accuses the Turkish side. The US Administration is very pessimistic about the future of the protocols and about the adoption of the resolution on Armenian Genocide by the US Congress,” Turkish well-known political analyst Mehmed Ali Birand told Milliyet.

According to Birand, Obama’s administration is angry that for getting rid of the word “genocide”, at the cost of huge efforts it has undertaken a “realized step” to “make Armenia and Turkey meet, to bring them together at the table of negotiations which though is currently being broken”.

“The USA is accusing Turkey of yielding to the tough confrontation of Baku and linking of Nagorno Karabakh conflict issue with the Armenian-Turkish relations. Linking of the ratification of protocols by the Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan with the Karabakh conflict regulation issue Washington described as “fatal blow” and the decision of the Armenian Constitutional Court the USA Administration described as “understandable confrontation” corresponding to the general weather dominating in the country,” Birand said, noting that after such description it is quite possible that the Obama administration will not undertake any step to prevent the adoption of the resolution on Armenian Genocide at the US Congress.

“For the change of this situation the only shortest and influential way is not to link the ratification of the Armenian-Turkish protocols with the Karabakh conflict settlement,” a US source told the Turkish political analyst, noting that they “do not see any other way out”.

The US source also said that “For not losing the authority by breaking its promise given to Armenians, the US Administration is not going to make Obama appear in a difficult condition for pleasing Ankara, in case when Turkey is continuatively giving blows to Israel and particularly when it opposes Washington’s efforts in Iran issue.

“We do not close our ears like we previously did. We feel strange and uncommon things in the foreign policy of the Turkish side,” the US source told Birand.
